Present simple Present continuous

She works every day.

Ocurriendo ahora o temporal
She is working now.
Ella está trabajando ahora.
Expresiones frecuentes every day, usually, often, always, never...
cada día, normalmente, a menudo, siempre, nunca...
now, right now, at the moment, today, this week...
They play. She plays.
Ellos juegan. Ella juega.
am/is/are + verbo + -ing
They are playing.
Ellos están jugando.

Casos especiales

  • Situaciones temporales vs. permanentes:
He usually walks to work, but this week he is going by bus.
    His English is improving slowly.
  • Always + continuo:
He is constantly losing my books.
  • Verbos de estado:
Algunos verbos normalmente no se usan en continuo porque describen un estado, no una acción: like, love, want, know, believe, understand, prefer, need, belong, seem.
I know the answer. (no I am knowing)
This car belongs to my father.
  • Significados diferentes:
I think she is right. (= creo, tengo una opinión)
I am thinking about my holiday. (= estoy pensando en, estoy considerando)
The flowers smell nice. (= huelen bien)
She is smelling the flowers. (= está oliendo las flores)
